Home Learning in Year 6
Reading takes priority over all home learning. We expect the children to read aloud to you on a daily basis for 10-15 minutes to:
* develop their fluency
* give you the opportunity to explain the meaning of new words
* to check their understanding by asking them questions.
We strongly recommend that you read to your child as much as possible preferably a more challenging book that they would not necessarily choose or be able to read themselves to. When your child completes a book, they will take a Quiz on our Accelerated Reader platform in school to test their knowledge and understanding of what they have read.  They can use the website to read books online - these books are linked to their Book Level (ZPD).
During the term, the children will have the opportunity to become a Reading Champion.  They will  be awarded a certificate for every 10 books they read.  They can also take the 'Great Year 6 Reading Challenge' by reading some of our recommended reads.
From the 21st September, the children will come home with a grid showing a broad range of tasks covering a number of subjects. The children will choose home learning tasks to complete before each half term.
We will continue to introduce a new spelling rule is every Monday in school and practice it throughout the week. This term, we will be setting all spellings through Spelling Shed as well as sending a sheet for further practise.
Children can also continue to use TT Rockstars and My Maths to consolidate their mathematical understanding.
